Neck Lift vs. KYBELLA®

It seems like the summer months come with an onslaught of social events — graduations, weddings, barbeques, and more — which means that cameras will be snapping away. For people who feel self-conscious in pictures, refining the look of the chin or neck can go a long way toward boosting their confidence. As a facial plastic surgeon, my Scottsdale, Arizona patients regularly come to me for advice. Now that summer is almost here, let’s compare the 2 main procedures that can get you photo-ready.

Neck Lift

A neck lift is a surgical procedure that can smooth and tighten the appearance of the neck, making it look more youthful. Because of the quality of the skin on the neck and its lifetime of sun exposure, it is often the first area of the face to show its age with bands and creases. A neck lift makes use of small, discreet incisions and requires about 2 weeks of healing time before patients feel comfortable resuming social activities.

KYBELLA®

This nonsurgical treatment is actually an injectable solution for reducing fat under the chin. Using an active ingredient that’s found naturally in the digestive system, KYBELLA dissolves fat the same way it’s metabolized within the digestive tract. Because it’s an injectable, KYBELLA treatments don’t require any sort of downtime after your visit. However, it does require a series of several treatments for best results. The results are typically quite long lasting and can even be indefinite as long as your weight remains steady. KYBELLA has been getting a lot of good press recently, but keep in mind that it’s strictly for a double chin — it’s not the right procedure for improving the entire appearance of the neck.
