| BLEPHAROPLASTY (EYELID LIFT) |
| Blepharoplasty is the medical terminology for an eyelid lift. Although the surgery of the upper and lower lids are dramatically different, both surgeries involve removing fat pockets that produce dark circles, resuspending and contouring the muscles around the eye, and removing excess skin. There are several types of surgeries that are used depending upon a patient's condition. Some types can be completed with a local anesthetic in the physician's office. Others require a light general anesthetic. The improvements in appearance are permanent.
In some patients, the skin of the upper lid can hang down so much that it limits the patient's ability to see. A test can be performed called a "visual field study." Some patients may be able to ask their insurance companies to cover the cost if they qualify based on the results of the tests.
Most patients may return to light activities 72 hours after surgery and women may be able to reapply makeup about 8 days after surgery. Full activity may be resumed about 10 days after surgery. |

| RHYTIDECTOMY (FACELIFT) |
| The facelift is a surgical procedure to elevate the soft tissues of the face into their original position. Many patients notice that the groove between the nose and the mouth (nasolabial folds) and the smile lines around the mouth become more prominent over time. The jowls along the jawline develop and the skin under the neck starts to sag. The procedures performed by Dr. Hobgood are permanent as the actual facial muscles are resuspended into a natural position. Incisions are hidden in the hairline and behind the ear, and heal with an almost imperceptible scar. Many patients do have the facelift completed with the PLATYSMAPLASTY discussed below. Patients are released for light activity after 72 hours and may return to full normal activity 10 to 14 days after surgery. |

| FOREHEAD/BROW LIFT |
| The forehead lift is a relatively quick surgery designed to elevate a drooping brow opening the eyes and producing a rejuvenated appearance. Dr. Hobgood hides all the incisions behind the hairline and uses an endoscope for a minimally invasive approach. Relaxing the muscles of the brow will disrupt the ability to form a "scowl" preserving a more youthful appearance. Most patients are released for light activity at 72 hours and can be back to normal activities 7 to 10 days after surgery. |

| LIPOSCULPTURE |
| Liposculpture is performed to remove excess fat pockets located in the face and neck. Careful liposuction techniques can be performed in the office with a local anesthetic. The incision is hidden under the chin and is barely perceptible with adequate healing. Patients wear a gauze dressing for about 24 hours and then wear an elastic chin strap for about a week at night. Recovery can be very quick but bruising may persist for about a week. |

| CHIN AUGMENTATION |
| Chin augmentation (genioplasty) describes the surgical placement of a variety of implants into the chin to enhance a smaller chin. Some patients also require an enhancement of the jawline instead or in addition to the chin implant. This surgery is very commonly performed in combination with a rhinoplasty. Incisions may be hidden inside the mouth or may be placed just under the chin in a natural crease. Patients are unaware of the implants after adequate healing and scars are barely perceptible. Bandages are worn for about 48 hours and normal activities can be resumed at about 7 to 10 days after surgery. |

| OTOPLASTY (EAR PINNING) |
| Otoplasty is a surgery that reshapes the external ear. The surgeon generally removes some cartilage allowing the ear to relax back into position. The ear is then reshaped with a series of very carefully placed stitches. All the incisions are hidden behind the ear so only the patient will know of the surgery. This surgery can be performed with a local in the doctor's office or in the operating room with a short, light general anesthetic depending on the age and wishes of the patient. Patients wear dressing for about 48 hours and then wear a typical athletic head band for about a week. Although there is no "absolute age" to perform such a procedure, Dr. Hobgood prefers to address these issues in young children aroung the age of 6 or 7 before teasing begins at school. |

| The chemical peel will remove the brown sun spots, irregular veins and wrinkles of the skin. | RHINOPHYMA DERMABRASION |
| In the rosacea spectrum, patients may develop an impressive over-development of sebaceous oil glands in the nose. Although the control of such lesions may involve topical or medical therapy, the removal requires surgical intervention. The dermabrader is used to excise the lesion and reshape the nose. Skin heals over the area within a couple of weeks after the procedure. |
